The House – Part 1

Peony searched for the key hole in the darkness. Frantically she placed her hands on the smooth wood walls. They were cool to the touch as her fingers slid shakily up and down their sides she knew she had to make it out of the room before midnight. Every room in the old mansion changed at midnight. Some did good things some did bad. She had never been in this one at midnight and she was too afraid to find out what would happen if she did. She started to panic. After reaching the end of were her fingers could reach she scouted over her leg hitting what was probably a chair, but all the furniture was cover with sheets and it was pitch black in the old room any way. In the hallway she heard the old grandfather clock ding and though she now knew what wall to go to it was too late.

The darkness started reaching out from the walls wrapping its arms around her like a snake around its prey. She was scared but she would not scream. There would be no use in it. The dark coils wrapped all around her she could feel them squeeze her. Finally, they covered her eyes forcing them close.

She opened them up and found herself in the old apartment her and her sister used to live in. She looked over at the mirror they had gotten from the lady down the hall. She had the same dark red hair like rust flowing in gentle waves and the same round baby doll face as she did back then. She turned to the worn red couch that they had picked up off the side of the road, with all its sewn-on patches to cover the holes.

“Sup Peony,” Lilian smiled down on her. Peony frowned and took a step back. This isn’t write. “What’s wrong?” Lilian asked her smile dropping.

“This isn’t real.” Peony whispered. She turned to run. Her sister had died the same way her parents had. At the age of twenty-five Lilian had had a head to head collision in a car crash.

The scene changes the edges blurred and it all melted away. Peony was fifteen sitting in the back seat of the old run-down car that was all her sister could afford. They were on their way to go see their aunt. They had found their mother and father’s will and they were going to take the girls to a court, so they could get what had been left for them all those years ago. She turned to her sister to see her face she looked sad and happy at the same time. They had loved their parents and any reminder of their life hurt but they were excited because there was mention of a house in the will. They were turning the corner when a SUV came flying around the corner on the wrong side. There was a crash, and everything blurred. There was a sharp pain in Peony’s side. She looked down to see a piece of metal stuck in fairly deep and winced. She looked over to see her sister staring at her. Blood dripped down her cheek there were a lot of little cut all over her face the red mixing with her hair, a perfect match. It didn’t appear to bad till she saw the split metal pieces and shards of glass protruding from her stomach from every angle.

Peony screamed as the darkness let her go. She fell on the wall and slid down to the ground. It was over, but the pain never left. She sat there the cold seeping deeper into her bones before she could take it no longer and she stood up and took the sheet off the piece of furniture from earlier relieved to find it was a couch. She curled up and used the sheet as a blanket. She would have to remember not to sleep in this room.
