The Girl with the Heart Shaped Locket (Kitsunae’s POV)

For the sake of my sanity the only name that will be true is mine.

Hello. I’m Kitsunae. But my friends call me Kitty. Well, they used to call me Kitty that is. Oh, where are my manners? I didn’t even get into why this story is important. This is probably one of many parts to this story. But for today it’s mine.

It was the night before my 18th birthday. Which felt like an eternity ago. Even though it’s only been a few days since then. As part of the celebrations I was having with my friends, we decided to head to the local cemetery and chill. Just to screw off with friends and have a good time.

Now, normally we come up this way around 3 maybe 4 in the afternoon. Bright shiny and not scary at all. But as sort of the whole “Kitty’s growing up now” type vibes we decided that we should go later. So we went at around 7 maybe 8 pm. Not super late but still around dusk. It was a nice night. Windy but not cold and it wasn’t exactly dark out. For the sake of what I’m gonna say is “my friends souls” I’m gonna leave all names to a first initial. Besides my own of course.

A few hours pass and it’s getting pretty dark. We had plans to just play some tunes and dance with some tombs. But that’s not how that happened. A few minutes after we were gonna set stuff up my friend, who is from now on known as D, came up and asked if we wanted to try out some Ghosts in the Graveyard (For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a hide and seek game but it’s more like Marco Polo. No flashlights and no phones. It’s fun normally). Us, being your average normal kinda gutsy teens and young adults, said yea. By god I wish I would have said no.

We played a round and came across a younger looking girl. 14 or 15. Not old enough to be in a cemetery on her own. Much less at night. She didn’t seem scared at all. Almost happy to see us. Myself and another friend, who will be known as Z for the rest of this story, went back while D stayed with the girl. We grabbed some food and drink, nothing alcoholic. I’m a teen not an idiot. And brought it back to the girl. When we got there, D was nowhere to be found. The girl said, “She’s in my locket.” Confused, Z asked what locket. The locket was a small almost iridescent red heart. That’s all I could see. I got a brief look before a flash of light and then I saw no one. The girl and Z were gone.

Now that I think about it, I think she meant to take us both. But we weren’t close enough together for her to get us. Mind you Z and I never saw the light flash the first time. And as far as I know he never saw it a second time.

Back at camp, most of the others were still hiding. Using the speakers and my phone, I called for an “ollI ollI oxenfree* so that I could get some help. After about 5 mins only two people showed up. These two were the most heartbreaking to see get taken. These two were known as “The Silent Sisters”. They were not silent. They just didn’t speak loud at all. And these two were my closest friends. I’m going to call them S and P.

S, P, and I went out to find the others. Needless to say all we found was nothing. A few phones that people used as a flashlight to find a hiding spot (even though it wasn’t allowed, that didn’t stop anyone). Then we heard S scream. It was a heart wrenching, skin piercing scream. And P took off. Went to help her sister only to succumb to the same fate. At that point I left. Knowing I couldn’t help anyone. I now know what I did wasn’t gonna make a difference. She knows where I am. And she’s been watching. This may be it from me. Hopefully I can find a way for S, P, Z, or D, can help you figure out what was going on. But for all I know they are still in the locket. So. This is my goodbye. I’m sorry. Goodbye.
