Silent Rose’s Backstory

Rose Elson. The shy girl, the quiet one. She hated loud noises. She hated noise in general. Unfortunately, she had made friends. An angsty odd girl named Lillith and a set of very loud twins, Pat and Alya, were said friends. She had also, unfortunately, invited them for a sleep over.

Rose was reading a book, per usual, when the doorbell rang. She got up and stretched before walking over to the door. She opened it, and there stood her friends. Lillith was in all black skull pajamas, her pink hair messily thrown into a braid. Pat and Alya were both wearing a matching set of baby blue girls pajamas with the hot pink words “I like boys” printed on the front. Alya was the first to speak.

“Hey Rose,” she whispered quietly, then fell into a fit of laughter.

Whispering had been a running joke between Rose and the twins since Rose’s first day of school when she had told them to shush.

“Hello Alya. Hi Pat. Hi Lillith,” Rose greeted.

“Let’s get this party started!” Pat whooped, rushing in the living room.

After and evening of munching on junk food, board games, and a heated match of Go Fish, the group all sat in a circle in the living room, deciding what to do next. After a long moment of thought, Lillith spoke.

“How about we play Baby Blue?” she said.

“What’s that?” Pat asked.

“It’s a mirror game ritual. We all gather in a circle in the bathroom and hold our arms like we’re rocking a baby. Then we started rocking our arms and chanting ‘Baby Blue, Baby Blue, I know the things she did to you.” After that, someone will feel their arms getting heavy. That means they have the baby. After that, everyone else leaves. The person with the baby continues with th. chant. Soon, the face of Daisy Blue will appear in the mirror and start to scream so loud you might cover your ears and drop the baby. But you musn’t drop the baby. Instead scream “YOU KILLED YOUR BABY.” The face will disappear and so will the baby. Then you’ll have good luck for a while. If you drop the baby, Daisy Blue will come out of the mirror and kill you,” Lillith explained.

“Sounds creepy,” Alya said. “Let’s do it!”

“Cool! Rose, where’s the bathroom?” Lillith asked.

“Um, how about we don’t do this,” Rose mumbled.

“It’s just a silly game, Rose. C’mon, loosen up!” Pat encouraged.

“Fine. I’ll lead the way,” Rose sighed.

In the bathroom, the group gathered around and began the chant.

“Baby Blue, Baby Blue, I know the things she did to you!” they all chanted.

After a few minutes, Rose felt her arms get heavy. She felt a tingle go up her spine as the dread settled in.

“Guys… I have the baby,” she whispered.

They all nodded. They wished her luck and left.

Rose was left to face the mirror all alone. She turned and started the chant back up.

“Baby Blue, Baby Blue, I know the things she did to you…”

Minutes passed, though it felt like hours to Rose. Nothing had changed in the mirror. She was starting to believe it was really just a silly game. Then she blinked. When she opened her eyes, there was a different face in the reflection. Rose didn’t have time to think before the image started to scream. She quickly, without thinking, covered her ears. She then realized in horror what she had done.

She’d dropped the baby.

The woman in the mirror quickly lunged for Rose, breaking the mirror. Rose screamed, but it was cut short by the woman quickly stabbing Rose’s throat with a glass shard.

The world spun in colors of red and white. Rose didn’t notice the woman disappear back into the mirror. She could only think about the pain that had come from the stupid decisions of her friends. Were they even her friends?

Rose’s vision was quickly fading to black.

She’d have her revenge.

One day.
