Me and Kate Fon have been friends since elementary school. We lived pretty close together so we would always hang out. Kate was a very quiet girl, I was pretty quiet myself. We just started our freshman year of high school. I was pretty excited, but Kate wasn’t ready. For some reason no one liked her at our school. Probably because she was so quiet. I wanted to comfort her during lunch.
“Hey, Kate. Are you okay?” I asked.
“O-oh. Yeah I’m fine,” she replied.
“How’s school been so far?”
“Okay, I guess.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Not really. I just need some time alone.”
Kate looked down at the floor, she was uncomfortable.
“Okay, I’ll leave you be. Just talk to me if you want.”
I got up and sat somewhere else. I looked back at her and she was just sitting there staring at the floor. She avoided me for the rest of the day. I decided I would see her this evening after I finish homework and eat dinner. I rode my bike to her place and knocked on the door. Her mother answered the door and said, “Hey Sam, it’s been a while.”
“Hi Mrs, Fon. Is Kate home?” I asked.
“Yes, she’s in her room.”
Mrs.Fon let me in the house and I quickly sprinted to Kate’s room. I knocked on the door, “Kate, It’s me Sam. I need to talk to you.” No answer. I knocked again, no answer. “Okay, I’m coming in.” I said.
“Wait no!” Kate yelled.
I burst through her door and there she was lying on the floor near her bed. There was a pool of blood around her.
“What the hell happened?” I said panicked.
“I don’t know. I just attacked my brother, I didn’t mean to.”
Her brother’s head, dislocated from the body was in her closet, ghostly pale.
“Did something happen earlier today?” I asked her.
“Well, I was on the way to school the morning and this slender dog man jumped out at me. He had one eye and very sharp teeth. He lunged towards me and bit me. I fought him off until he retreated. He kept repeating, ‘doitdoitdoitdoit’. I cleaned it off and headed to school. I didn’t think much of it. And then, I started hearing ‘doitdoitdoit’ going on and on inside my head and then everything went red. When I was back to normal, I was laying in a pool of blood.”
“We need to get you help!” I told her.
Kate began to scream, I backed into a corner terrified. Her limbs were stretching and growing. Blood began dripping from her mouth and eyes. Her hair grew long and white until it covered her face. I tried not to move. I wanted to scream but, my throat closed up. Kate was facing the wall, she was in a distorted position that didn’t make her look human at all. I heard a quick snap, her neck twisted all the way around like an owl. “DOITDOIT!” she yelled in a deep voice.
I ran out of her room as quickly as possible. I bolted down the hall to the front door. “Sam, what’s wrong?!” she asked frantic.
“Mrs.Fon! You need to run!” I screamed.
But, it was too late. This monster who used to be Kate snatched her up and tore her in half. I could still hear her screams. Guts spilled out everywhere. I wanted to vomit. The monster ate what was left of Mrs.Fon. She looked at me and she stared blankly, blood dripping from her face.
“I-I’m sorry,” the monster said in a raspy voice. She bolted towards me. I was ready for her to tear me open but, the monster slipped past me and went into the woods that was just over the fence. I didn’t want to take any chances, I quickly got on my bike and sped off. I could hear the screams of another person behind me. I sped up, and locked the door as soon as I got home. My parents were probably already asleep, so I didn’t worry too much. I went down the hallway to head to my room. I passed by my parents’ room and I only saw my dad. Mom must have went to the pharmacy to get sleep aid. The next morning I woke up and sat down to eat. My dad came in the kitchen crying.
“Dad, what’s wrong?” I asked.
“Your mother was found dead last night. The police found her torn in half,” he explained. I was mortified. Later that month we moved to a new state. My dad couldn’t live in the same house anymore after my mother died. It was very peaceful in out new home. I was pretty settled. Late at night I got a phone call. I answered and all I heard was static. I waited for 30 seconds just to make sure. And then I hear the faintest words, “d-do it.” I heard breathing behind me.
Oh s**t.
