The woods stretched on what seemed like eternity, my feet were bleeding from all of the popped blisters on my ankles. The only thing to keep what courage I had left was the bright moonlight and it sure was bright tonight. As I kept walking along the pathway through the woods, all I could think was that I didn’t want to die tonight. The hair on the back of my neck was standing up, something wicked, something evil was following me I picked up my pace from walking to running like there was no tomorrow. The quicker I ran the faster I heard whatever it was following me I was in trouble, but I WAS NOT going to die here tonight.
I stopped for a second to catch my breath, the chirping of crickets was all I heard now, my heart beat lessened I felt safe for a short minute until I heard a howl and saw a swarm of glowing green eyes surrounding me. “Come to me my dear. Come to me my precious.” I could hear them chant those words their words were very soothing very hypnotizing and before I knew it I had taken their bait; hook, line and sinker, I was trapped in a fog of their chanting. I could feel myself being over powered and being dragged down into the ground. I was intangible, the hollow feeling was very disturbing to say the least. I drifted downward through the darkness for a good while. “Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you.” That same voice was haunting me as I kept drifting, it was safe to say that I was scared out of my mind now.
My feet finally hit the ground and a pathway lit up, despite my better judgment I followed the pathway. I walked the pathway for probably 5 miles, my surroundings were not the cheeriest I looked around, decomposing bodies were laying on the ground, the smell itself made me want to vomit. I tried to turn around but the pathway had disappeared, I knew it in my heart that I was screwed. I did what I knew I had to do, I kept going I was honestly hoping that this would lead me somewhere, I wish I hadn’t have thought that. A bonfire lit up only a few feet away from me, once again despite my better judgment and the fact that I had nowhere else to go I headed in the direction of the bonfire.
My heart raced as I saw a black haired figure sitting on a log in front of the fire. I crept up slowly behind the figure, it’s shoulders were moving so I peered down to see what it was doing. It was poking at the fire I looked down at the figure’s hand it had a weird looking skull on it. The figure looked up at me and caught me off guard, I fell backwards, but it caught me. I looked at the figure’s face, it was a man with gorgeous green eyes. “I’m so so so sorry, I didn’t mean to creep up on you. I’m just lost and I’m trying to find my way out of here.” He looked down at me and smiled, somehow I knew I was going to be okay. He sat me down next to him and I felt safe. “It’s okay, this is the first time I’ve had company in along time and at least it’s someone as beautiful this time.” His smooth, calm words made me feel a lot easier about the situation. I don’t know what was going on with me but I liked it way too much for my own good.
He just sat there poking at the fire I just stared at him, his green eyes glistened and danced as the fire bounced off of them. “ Say I never got your name. Also how did you know my name?” I asked him, his eyes changed from a beautiful shade of bright green, to a dull lifeless shade of green. “My name is Sam, Sarah and for how I knew your name well I am good at those type of things.” He seemed so genuine in his words that it just made me feel so calm. I just stared at him and he went back to messing around with the fire. “Sarah why don’t you just go to sleep? I’ll see you when you wake up.” He sounded so monotonous it made me feel bad, but I did like he suggested. I looked around for a place to sleep but there wasn’t any place to sleep. “Sam, where am I..” He pointed his finger behind me and there was a dark red colored tent. “How did that get there?” He didn’t respond, but I headed towards the tent and crawled into it. There was a lamp and a blow up mattress in there, I crawled my b**t underneath the blankets and went to sleep.
A few hours later…..
I woke up and left the tent, the fire was still going but Sam was nowhere to be found. I sat down on the log and looked at the fire, the embers danced like little humans made of fire it was beautiful. The silence was getting to me and the fact that Sam had disappeared didn’t make it any better. As I looked around the green eyes appeared again doing what they do best. “Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you. Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you. Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you.” They repeated those words over and over again I was getting scared. “SAM! SAM! WHERE ARE YOU?” I was freaking out, I could hear my voice crack, the tears were streaming down my face the voices got louder and were swarming in around me. Sam never appeared, I was alone and I hated it.
I woke up trenched in sweat and tears, thank the gods it was only a dream I never want to feel so alone and so helpless ever again. I wiped the tears and sweat off of me and I crawled out from the tent. The fire was still going like in my dream and Sam was nowhere to be seen. Great I’m reliving my nightmare. “Sam! This isn’t funny, where are you?” It was a repeat of my nightmare this was not going to end well. “Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you. Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you. Come to me. Come to me. I will never hurt you.” The voices started their repetition my body turned to lead and I couldn’t move. “SAM WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! SA-!” The voices suddenly stopped and I felt something behind me I turned around to see Sam standing there, he looked so lifeless I hugged him. “ Please don’t leave me again. I was scared.” He didn’t say anything except hug me back, he felt cold and his eyes where glistening like an emerald color. “Sarah, don’t worry I’ll never hurt you.” Just like that I realized that his voice was the voices that had been chasing me, his eyes were the eyes I saw. It was Sam that had been leading me to him. I tried to move away from him, but he didn’t let me go. “Sam, I want to go back to the tent. Let me go.” I tried pulling away, but his grip on me tightened.
“Sarah, do you want to know what my real name is?” The way he spoke, it sent chills down my spine something told me I wasn’t going to like the answer. “My name dear sweet Sarah is Samael, I am the Angel of Death.” A very tall scythe appeared in his left hand, where the weird skull was his eyes got brighter and the fire grew 5x’s the normal size that it originally was. I tried running from Samael, but my legs gave way and I was that the mercy of the Angel of Death. “Why have you been chasing me? Why me?” I tried moving again, but I was still immobilized. “F**K!I will NOT die down here” That’s all I could think or feel. Samael put the edge of the scythe to my throat. I had never been so scared before in my life. “Sarah, it’s nothing personal, but it is my job and it’s your time to die.” I felt the energy being sapped from my body, Samael’s scythe was draining the energy from me. “Sarah, are you ready to go? The River man is waiting for you.” I looked to my left and there was a black river next to me and Samael there was a river boat covered in skulls, the hooded figure stood in the boat waiting for me. Samael looked at me and his eyes burned a fierce sort of green. “Sarah, are you ready to go? The River man isn’t a patient one.” I had no other choice, I was at the mercy of Death and I had no way of escaping. “Sam, Samael, Death.. Whatever name you choose to go by. I have no other choice you can kill me.” Samael moved the scythe away from my throat and hovered over me, big black wings emerged from his shoulder blades. He moved closer to my face as to kiss me.
“Sarah it will be painless. You won’t feel a thing.” His lips were right above mine, I could feel his breath on my face, it was unbearably cold. “Do you promise it won’t hurt?” I had started to cry, he wiped away my tears. “ I promise.” He put down the scythe next to me. “Samael, my promise is that this is going to hurt,” He looked at me puzzled for a second, I grabbed his scythe and slit his throat open. His blood sprayed all over my face, he stood up grabbing his throat flailing around the area. Samael tripped over one of the skulls and fell into the fire, the smell of him burning was indescribable, but it was a very strong over powering the nostrils type of smell. The energy had come back to me, I managed to get up and look at the Angel of Death burning, he looked so helpless and pathetic it was really sad. I walked over to him, watching him burn his face began to crack and dissolve into the air. Everything started to disappear the River man disappeared, the fire started to disappear the walls started to crumble in around me.
I closed my eyes, I knew I was going to die I heard the chirping of crickets, I opened my eyes I was back in the woods and it was daylight. I was right I wasn’t going to die tonight or anytime soon. I did know that Samael wasn’t completely dead you can’t cheat or kill death. When I do die, I know he would be waiting for me and I would welcome him. I felt the rays of the sun beam down on me and for the first time in along time I felt alive. The end of the woods was near and I was ready to head in that direction.
