It was well past midnight as I was driving home from a night out with my girlfriends. I had a couple of drinks but not enough to make me completely drunk. I was little tipsy and in the right state to drive home by myself.
I was driving down a dirt road in the middle of the forest when I heard my phone ding. I picked up my phone thinking it was my boyfriend checking to make sure I was okay, but it was from my friend Anna. She had lost her phone last week so I wondered if she had found it.
Her text read, ”I’m home, safe.” I set my phone down and continued driving. I decided to turn on music to drown out the silence. My phone dinged again. I sighed and pulled over to the side of the road. I picked up my phone and turned it on. It was from Anna again.
“Why did you put your phone down?” it read. My heart sank. Maybe she was drunk or she accidentally texted me. My mind filled with questions. I responded to her.
“Did you find your phone?” I heard a ding. Not from my phone but from behind me. I froze in fear. My phone dinged again.
“Behind you,” it read. The stupid person I was looked behind me. I screamed in terror as I saw a man sitting behind me, smiling. He was holding a knife with blood smeared on it.
My phone dinged once again.
“Hey it’s Anna, I got a new phone.”
My screams echoed through the night.
